IRF President Keith Calkins to attend Irish Junior Open

International Racquetball Federation President Mr Keith Calkins will be guest of honour of the Racquetball Association of Ireland at the Irish Junior Open which will be held in Co Waterford next weekend. The Irish Junior Open this year has a record number of athletes competing, with nearly 150 juniors from all over Ireland.





Junior Athletes nominated for Natioanl Awards

The following athletes have been nominated for the National Junior Awards -Female Player of the Season: Clodagh McManamon (Newport), Ciara McManaman (Newport), Aisling Hickey (Rossmore)
Male Player of the Season: Sean Keane (Fermoy), Joe Dillon (Kingscourt), Dean Cliffe (Touraneena)
Most Improved Female Player of the Season: Ciara Corcoran (Rossmore), Moira Kinane (Rossmore), Aisling Hallinan (Touraneena)
Most Improved Male Player of the Season: Padraig Ryder (Newport), Ciaran Carey (Templederry), James Ryan (Rossmore)
Winners to be named at Racquetball Function in Touraneena on Saturday 18th April (Irish Junior Open).





Hughes bounces back to win Fermoy Open

Liam Hughes(Fermoy) after a below par performance at the All Ireland Singles Championships four weeks ago regained his form to win the Open Singles at the Fermoy Open last weekend. He defeated his club mate and National Champion Noel O`Callaghan in the final of the Open Singles by 2 games to nil.Toni Neary(Arklow) won the Womens Singles Final with 2-0 win over Donna Ryder(Newport, however Ryder still remains top of the Womens rankings.

Patrick Hanley & Clodagh McManamon win top events in Castlebar

Both National Champions Noel O`Callaghan(Fermoy) and Ciara McManamon(Newport) were defeated in the Open Singles finals at the 18th Castlebar Open held at the weekend. Patrick Hanley gained some recompense for his loss against O`Callaghan in the final at the All Ireland Championships 2 weeks ago when he defeated the Champion by 2 games to nil to win his second Open Singles this season. He powered his way to victory forcing O`Callaghan on the backfoot for much of the match.The womens final was went to a tie breaker where Ciara`s twin sister Clodagh was the 2 games to 1 winner. The other singles were Martin Clarke(Castlebar), Mens Novice, John Walsh(Galway), Mens D, Padriag Benson (Athenry) Mens B/C and Patricvk Burke(Castlebar) Junior winner.
