Joe Dillon & Clodagh McManamon are the New Champions

In one of the closest Mens Singles finals ever, Joe Dillon of Kingscourt was crowned champion before an enthusiastic home crowd at Kingscourt Hadball & Racquetball Centre last weekend. Dillon defeated Sean Keane(Fermoy) on a score line of 14-15, 15-14 and 11-10. The match ebbed and flowed throughout with never more that 2 points separating the contestsants at any point. In the tie breaker both players had opportunies to seal victory but it was Dillon who got the winning point on his fourth attempt.
Clodagh McManamon(Newport) took over from her twin sister Ciara who was the defending champion to win her first Nationals Singles title. She defeated Donna Ryder also from the Newport club in Co Mayo by 2 games to 1.
Another notable achievement over the weekend came from Ray Breen of Arklow who won both the Mens Novice Singles and the Mens D Singles. Niall Nevin(Fethard) was the winner of the Mens C while Ruardhi O`Rourke from the home club won the Mens B Singles. Majella Haverty(Castlebar) won the Womens B title and Elaine Murphy(Templederry) is the new Womens Novice Champion
In the Juniors, Sean Keane took consolation in defeating Dillon while Aisling Hickey(Rossmore) is the new Girls Under 18 Champion

19th Castlebar Open

The 19th Castlebar Open will be held on the 20th & 21st March in An Sportlann & St Geralds College, Castlebar. Closing date for entries is Sunday 14th March. This years tournament has regained European Racquetball Tour (ERT) status with ranking points on the ERT being awarded.

National Doubles Championships

It was double celebrations for Conor Skehan(Touraneena) & Eoin Kearns(Touraneena)when they won both the Mens Open Doubles and the Mens C/D/Novice Doubles at the All Ireland Doubles Championships held in Arklow. In the Mens Overage Singles held alongside the doubles, Adam Neary(Arklow)is the 30+ Champion, Jimmy Gannon(Arklow) won the 40+ Singles and John Comerford(Kilkenny) is the Mens 50+ Champion.





First Open Win for Joe Dillon

Seventeen year old Joe Dillon(Kingscourt) won his first major Championship at senior level when he won the Mens Singles at the 15th Moylagh Open in Co Meath. Joe defeated current National Champion Noel O`Callaghan(Fermoy) 15-7, 13-15, 11-6.
In Womens Singles, Majella Haverty(Castlebar) won her third Open Singles competition when she defeated Susan Neary (Arklow)15-9, 15-10. It was Susan`s first competitive tournament after an absence of over 2 years.

15th Moylagh Open - Enter Online

All Ireland Junior B Championships

The All Ireland Junior B Championships will be held in Arklow on Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th of January. There will be competition for boys & girls at Under, 12, 14, 16 & 18 singles. To enter contact Christy Slattery
